Are Preservatives Necessary?

Imagine purchasing a body scrub, lip scrub, or other personal care product because the label proudly states “100% natural.” You believe you’re making the safest choice possible for yourself and your family. What many consumers don’t realize, however, is that products containing water—or products that are routinely exposed to water during use—require protection to remain safe.

Without an effective preservation system, moisture can create an environment where bacteria, mold, fungi, and yeast may grow, often long before any visible signs appear. A product can look, smell, and feel perfectly normal while unwanted microorganisms are already present.

At Omnia Bene, we believe consumers deserve transparency about what keeps their products safe. For this reason, we thoughtfully incorporate preservation systems when they are necessary to maintain the quality, stability, and safety of a formula throughout its intended use.

Depending on the product, we may utilize naturally derived preservation systems such as Geogard ECT—an ECOCERT- and COSMOS-approved preservative—or fermentation-based ingredients such as Leucidal®. These options are selected carefully to support the integrity of each formulation while aligning with our standards for ingredient quality.

In some cases, additional preservation technologies may be used when required to ensure a product remains safe and effective throughout its lifespan. We believe that responsible formulation means making decisions based on both ingredient philosophy and real-world product safety.
